JIS Governing Boards

The unique governance structure at JIS offers clearly defined roles for school management and the parent board. It honors each group's expertise, focuses accountability and limits redundancy.

Board of Patrons

JIS is an Indonesian Yayasan (not-for-profit organization) overseen by the Board of Patrons (BOP), which is the equivalent to a board of trustees and is the final authority of the school. The eleven-member BOP includes representatives of three remaining founding embassies (Australia, United Kingdom, and United States) as well as four elected parent representatives and four appointed representatives. The Board of Patrons hires and appraises the Head of School and sets by-laws, which serve as the framework to guide educational and administrative operations.

The BOP uses John Carver's Policy Governance model for formulating by-laws and structuring its relationship with the Head of School. This model enables the Board to focus on larger strategic issues, to delegate with clarity, and to control management's jobs without interfering, while rigorously evaluating the accomplishments of the school.

Board of Management
and Board of Supervisors

JIS' governance structure is also composed of a Board of Management (BOM) chaired by the Head of School and charged with the day-to-day management and the legal representation of the school. A Board of Supervisors (BOS) is responsible for supervising the Board of Managers and advising both the BOM and the BOP.
