4 Things You Need to Know About the JIS BTI Scholarship

Named after Indonesia’s national motto of Unity in Diversity, Jakarta Intercultural School’s (JIS) Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (BTI) scholarship program gives Indonesian students the chance to fulfill their potential at JIS. We welcomed our first cohort of scholars in 2018 and since then, the BTI program has continued to change the lives of young scholars, athletes, artists, and future leaders to be Best for the World

But what is the BTI all about? Here are four things you need to know about the JIS BTI Scholarship program.

Open to Indonesian state-school students

If your child is an Indonesian national currently attending a state middle school (SMPN) or high school (SMAN) in Jakarta, they are eligible to apply for a JIS BTI scholarship. They must also be between the ages of 13 and 16, or grades 8-10, and have some command of English.

A merit-based scholarship

At JIS, we believe that every child is unique and talented in their own way; that they are gifted in different areas that require equal attention. Is your child an exceptional performer, athlete, or student? Do they show a strong interest in entrepreneurship, social responsibility, or activism? They might be a perfect candidate for the JIS BTI program.

All expenses, tuition, and fees paid until graduation

As a BTI scholar, your child will get a fully funded JIS experience that covers all their expenses, including yearly tuition, transportation, lunch services, and any additional exam fees. It also covers extracurricular activities, including sports competitions and school trips that require international travel.  The BTI scholarship will be valid from the time your child arrives at JIS up until they graduate. For example, if your child joins JIS at the start of Grade 9,  their scholarship would be valid for all four years of High School.

BTI graduates go on to attend universities around the world

As part of their High School experience at JIS, your child will have the unique opportunity of choosing between several internationally recognized university pathways: the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IBDP), IB Careers-related Programme (IBCP), and Advanced Placement (AP) Capstone Diploma

Our experienced High School Counselors guide will guide them through their course selection at JIS, then help them choose the university that best fits their personal and academic goals. JIS also works closely with respected tertiary institutions from around the world, regularly inviting representatives to talk about their programs on campus and connect with students and parents.

BTI graduates have gone on to continue their education at top-ranked universities in Indonesia and abroad, with several having secured government or school-sponsored scholarships to such notable schools as the Tokyo Institute of Technology and the University of Toronto.
