Apply
Whether you're crossing oceans to move to Jakarta or are just a short drive away, choosing a school is an important decision.
Our admissions process is simple, personal, and convenient. You can spend less time worrying about requirements and more time discovering how learning happens at JIS.
Five Steps to JIS Admission
Step 1
Contact JIS Admissions
Scheduling a time to meet with one of our admission specialists is an exciting part of the application process.
-
This is a time to let us know what is important to you. What makes your student special and gets them excited about school? We want to know!
-
This is a great opportunity for you to get all of your questions about JIS, Jakarta, and our community answered. These questions help us get to know you so we can personalize your experience in joining our community.
Student Support Services
If your child is neurodiverse or requires support in academics, speech and language, occupational therapy, behavior, or social-emotional or physical wellness, please let us know before filling out an application. We will start communicating with you about your child's particular needs and let you know what documentation to include in your child's application.
Step 2
Submit an Application
Submitting the online application form is the next step in the application process. We must receive all required documentation, as explained in steps two and three before we can process an application. Submission of an application does not guarantee admission. Students' eligibility for enrollment will be reviewed based on documentation submitted by their parents/guardian.
Please pay close attention to your Application Lane as it will impact application deadlines, requirements and admission priority.
Determine Your Lane
JIS groups applications into three Application Lanes.
Dependents of employees of JIS founding embassies (United States, United Kingdom, and Australia), and eligible dependents of JIS faculty.
Expatriate or host country students coming from overseas who do not yet have a school in Jakarta.
Expatriate or host country students transferring from a local or international school in the Greater Jakarta area (JABODETABEK). Applications in this lane are for August enrollment only.

Step 3
Submit Required Documents
After submitting your application, you need to submit supporting documents. Your application will not be processed until these documents are complete. Your personal checklist of requirements and online supplemental forms can be accessed via your online application account. In general, these include:
- Application fee: Rp 5 million (approximately $360)
- Academic records for the last three years of school, in English or officially translated in English.
- Confidential reference
- Student questionnaire (Grades 3 to 12)
- Parent questionnaire (Early Years)
- For students who require learning support services: initial, progressive, and current evaluations or reports.
To avoid delays to your application, please make sure to follow the format and naming conventions shown on the application form.
NOTE
Parents are advised that applicants who are admitted to JIS will need to submit the following upon registration:
(Click on the blue text to download forms)
- A Letter of Sponsorship — New families who do not yet have a temporary stay permit (KITAS) or whose school fees will be paid for by a sponsoring company need to submit a letter of sponsorship. This requirement is waived for founding embassy employees (US, UK, and Australia), and for JIS faculty.
- Medical and Immunization Clearance
- Transfer Certificate (Surat Mutasi) — This is a requirement from the Ministry of Culture and Education. Students in Grades 2 to 11 who are transferring to JIS from another school in Indonesia should contact their school to provide documents required to obtain this certificate. JIS must receive this certificate within 45 days of the student's first day of school at JIS.

Step 4
Complete Assessments
All applicants go through an evaluation process. An admission decision will only be made after your child completes these evaluations.
Applicants for the Early Years will need to demonstrate developmentally appropriate skills. Assessments may include a parent interview, student observation, and/or submission of a series of short, structured videos of the student engaged in an activity.
Applicants in Grades 1 to 12 are assessed in English language, reading, writing, and mathematics. Applicants for whom English is not the first language may be required to take an English Language Proficiency Test and attend an interview.
In Grades 1 and 2, applications are reviewed on the basis of academic history, school records, reference feedback, and in some cases an interview.
Applicants in Grades 3 to 10 will take an admissions screening test. Student may take the test online supervised by a JIS Admissions Specialist, or on campus at JIS. Please complete the test early to avoid delays in admission outcomes.
Applications for Grade 12 are open to Lanes 1 and 2 only and are assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Step 5
Application Review and Decision
Completed applications will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee.
Admission decisions are based on:
- Alignment between the family's educational goals and values with the JIS mission, vision, dispositions, values, and approaches to learning
-
Ensuring a balance of diversity across grade levels and divisions
-
The availability of resources to provide support and opportunities for the applicant
Admission
If your child meets the admission criteria, and there are seats available in the grade level and program for which your child is applying, you will receive an offer of admission and can begin to anticipate a positive transition into the JIS Community. You will need to respond to the offer of admission within 7 days in order to confirm your child’s seat at JIS. Unconfirmed offers will be allocated to candidates in our wait pool.
Wait Pool
An applicant who meets admission criteria but is applying for a grade level that is at capacity, or when required support services are at capacity, will join the wait pool. As seats become available, admission priority is based on application lanes. Within application lanes, further priority is given to siblings of current or newly enrolled students, and to alumni families.
The wait pool for the first semester will be reviewed by August 5 and the wait pool for the second semester will be reviewed by January 5. After these dates, students will be offered seats if and when admission becomes possible.
Unsuccessful Application
An applicant will not be offered admission when English language proficiency is not commensurate with the student's intended grade level, when JIS is unable to adequately meet an individual student’s support needs, or when the application does not meet JIS's admission criteria.
