JIS Athletics Philosophy
JIS Athletics is committed to offering all members of our community opportunities to participate in a variety of physical activities and competitive sport that are guided by the JIS Core Values. For student-athletes we offer year-round skill development in both individual and team sports, while simultaneously providing an environment that focuses on increasing the participant’s level of physical fitness, develop higher social and emotional well being, and increasing the capacity to compete at a higher level. We offer our greater community opportunities for personal development through recreational sport play and fitness based activities as well.
Our mission is that all participants associated with JIS Athletics will show respect for self and others, value teamwork, and win and lose gracefully. Additionally, we look for opportunities in athletics where athletes learn resilience and resourcefulness. While team and individual success is a natural goal in the pursuit of excellence, the principles of good sportsmanship and the JIS core values take precedence at all times.
The Interscholastic Association of Southeast Asia Schools (IASAS) is a unique organization that fosters community, friendship, competition, cultural exchange, and fun between select schools across Southeast Asia.
Six schools make up the IASAS conference: Jakarta Intercultural School (JIS), Singapore American School (SAS), International School of Bangkok (ISB), International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL), International School of Manila (ISM), and Taipei American School (TAS). Through participation in IASAS, our student-athletes travel internationally to tournaments throughout the year, hosted by different member schools. In the 2019/20 season, JIS will host both the Basketball and Golf IASAS tournaments. JIS is proud to be a founding member of the IASAS conference and to offer all of its benefits to our students.
Participation in athletics is an integral part of student life at JIS. Our teams play friendly games with local schools and sports clubs, as well as participate in the Jakarta Area Athletic Conference (JAAC) and in the Interscholastic Association of Southeast Asian Schools (IASAS) conference. Taking part in athletics is an important part of maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle in the JIS community. Our Elementary School and Early Years programs have a wide range of athletics-focused, after-school activities for students. Visit Elementary Activities and Community Sports to learn more.
Community Sports offers sporting and fitness activities in order to better serve both students and adults. These activities are operated outside the JIS curriculum, and so carry a separate fee per program. We offer a wide variety of year-round, after school activities and holiday camps taught by expat and local experts for elementary, middle & high school students, and we further have offerings for adults.
