Health and Safety

Our focus on health and safety is our collective social responsibility to one another and our community. Please take a moment to read the information below.

You can also learn more details about our health and safety guidelines and cleaning procedures here.

Promoting General Good Hygiene Practices

  • Masks work. They are highly effective at limiting the spread of the coronavirus. They must be worn at all times. If an individual wants to wear a face shield, they may, but in conjunction with a mask. Masks must fit properly, covering the nose and mouth, and sealing the edges. Cloth masks must be two-ply. Additional masks are available in the Nurse’s Office should one be needed.
  • Students, staff, and faculty members must bring a spare mask in a resealable or Ziploc bag labeled with their name.
  • Students, staff, or faculty members must bring their water bottles to school as water coolers will only fill up water bottles.
  • Students will wash their hands at regular intervals throughout the day.
  • Sanitizer is available throughout the school campus and should be used during all intervals and needed times, especially if a hand-washing station is not available close by.

COVID-19 Symptoms

  • Fever
  • Dry cough
  • Aches and pains
  • Sore throat
  • Diarrhea
  • Red eyes
  • Conjunctivitis
  • Headache
  • Loss of taste or smell
  • Rash
  • Runny nose
  • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
  • Chest pain

The Delta Variant

The Delta variant is more contagious than the other virus strains. Unvaccinated people are at the greatest risk. The strain may come on quite quickly and have different symptoms than the first strains of COVID-19. A runny nose, sore throat, headaches, and chills/fever are more typical in the Delta variant.

Illness

Any student, staff, or faculty member who has any symptoms of COVID-19 or is ill must stay home. If anyone in a household is sick, we ask that all members of the household stay home and refrain from going to school until it is known if others in the household are sick with Covid.  If an individual in the house has COVID, the student, staff, or faculty member should stay home for five nights and six days, then take an antigen or PCR test before returning to school. Of course, it is highly recommended that everyone in the household stay home and isolate.

Any students, staff, or faculty found to exhibit any COVID-19-related symptoms during the school day will be sent to the Nurse’s Office. Parents will also be called and an antigen test will be given. Individuals showing any symptoms from the above list (not exhaustive) or who tested positive with the antigen test will be asked to go home and must seek clearance from a doctor before their return to school, which may include further COVID-19 testing. Parents are requested to collect their children as soon as possible from the Nurse’s Office, or the nurse will accompany the child to the pickup area once we are alerted that the parent/guardian is there. At Cilandak, parents can drive directly to the Health Services Office.

Quarantine

If a student, staff, or faculty member is exposed to COVID-19 through close contact, they must quarantine for five nights and six days.

If a student is exposed to Covid on campus, the nurse will call the parents to share that the student must quarantine for five nights and six days. At the start of quarantine, a student will be asked to perform an antigen test for contact tracing purposes. An additional antigen test after 5 nights is needed to return to school.

The nurses will implement a tracking and tracing system that follows the definition of a close contact set by the CDC:

Close Contact through Proximity and Duration of Exposure: Someone who was within 1.5 meters of an infected person (laboratory-confirmed or a clinically compatible illness) for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period.

However, for elementary students the whole class will need to quarantine for 5 nights/6days if there is a positive case within the classroom.

If a student, staff, or faculty member is positive for COVID-19, they must isolate for a minimum of 10 days.

Temperature and Health Declarations

Daily temperature-taking with additional screening will resume for all students and staff. Students will enter the school, and temperatures are taken. We encourage parents to take the temperatures of their children daily so that they can ensure that their children do not have a temperature.

Medical Support

  • Full-time trained medical staff will be available on-site who will be able to assist students with any symptoms or sickness.
  • We are working to set up a testing site on campus so that antigen tests can be done in real-time, should we need to. More information on this is forthcoming and once this is in place, we will share details and waivers with you.
  • At this time, should we need to test a student on campus, we will get permission from parents via a phone call prior to testing. If we are unable to reach the parent, we will isolate the student.
  • Isolation areas are available to ensure a safe space for children determined to be or feel unwell.

When Sick

If a student, staff, or faculty member feels sick and has covid symptoms, they must stay home. It is our collective responsibility to one another to report any illnesses and take precautionary steps not to infect another person.
