By providing an academic program that is challenging and individualized, every student at JIS high school develops as a learner and as a person. We are committed not only to academic rigor and success, but also to preparing students for adulthood and life after high school. There is a path for every student and it is our responsibility to help students discover what is right for them.

Our Curriculum

JIS offers a full High School (Grades 9-12) program of studies based on the best curriculum models worldwide, which are designed to prepare students for college or university. We prepare students for life’s possibilities by placing equal emphasis on academics, the creative arts, technology, service learning and athletics.

Overview

The JIS four-year high school program is based on the North American model. Students earn “credits” toward graduation and a high school diploma. All courses are taught in English, with the exception of modern language and mother tongue course offerings.

Our program:

The Grade 9 and 10 curriculum is based on international standards and was designed to prepare students for success in Grades 11 and 12. Students in Grade 10 have the option to take a select number of Advanced Placement (AP) courses.
In Grades 11 and 12, JIS offers courses in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP), the IB Careers-related Programme (IB CP) and Advanced Placement (AP) curriculum, including the AP Capstone Diploma.
Indonesian government regulations mandate all Indonesian students take language, literature and civics courses, then national exams in Grades 9 and 12.
All students are required to complete Creativity, Activity and Service activities throughout High School.

Course Selection

The curriculum we offer is rich with offerings in technology, business, service learning, and creative arts. As one of the few schools that offer both the International Baccalaureate (IB) and Advanced Placement (AP) programs, as well as our own JIS curriculum, we offer choice, flexibility, and personalization to our students.

Every student has different goals and education is not one size fits all. By working with students and families, we ensure that each student is following a course of study that is best for them. The IB and AP programs are open to all students, who create course schedules based on advice from teachers and personal academic advisors (counselors). The primary focus of our IB and AP curriculum is to prepare students to be critical thinkers, equipped with the academic skills necessary for rigorous university study.

Student Support Services

The High School student support services team is comprised of all High School Counselors, the Language and Learning Specialists, English as an Additional Language Specialists, the School Psychologist, School Therapist, and members of the High School Administration team. They work together to provide support for academics, social and emotional well-being, mental and physical well-being, and the university application process.

Service Learning

An important part of JIS high school is service learning. All students are required to complete Creativity, Activity and Service activities throughout High School. It is important for students to be well rounded and give back to their community. With service learning built into the curriculum our students develop into confident, creative, respectful, empathetic, and environmentally responsible people, the academic growth they experience ensures that their ongoing contribution to the world community will be significant.

High School Student Life

Students at JIS have endless opportunities to engage in extracurricular activities. Several students take part in athletic teams, performing arts productions, creative arts showcases, student led service clubs, and academic clubs. Every student in grade 9-12 participates in service activities as part of their requirement for graduation.

Some of our students are involved in IASAS sports and clubs and represent JIS at international competitions. If there is a club not offered, students are encouraged to start their own, and many do! There is an emphasis on being part of extracurricular activities while in high school and students following their non-academic interests. This helps to create successful, balanced, well-rounded students.

High School students are on the brink of adulthood and we make these last years before university joyful and engaging. Students plan, lead, and participate in a number of events and celebrations throughout the school year. These events are not only fun, but provide important experiences in leadership, communication, teamwork, and fiscal responsibility.

Our program supports students during their educational and personal journeys, helping them to discover what they are capable of and identify how they will contribute to a global society. The JIS High School reflects our commitment to an international community where cross-cultural awareness promotes a respect for all individuals.

Community of Care

We have a commitment to making sure that each student is appropriately supported and cared for. This commitment goes beyond the classroom and looking after student physical and mental wellbeing. As a school, we share this responsibility within a Community of Care.

We seek to promote within our students a positive outlook for life, and we help our students become balanced and successful citizens, well-equipped with the ability to think critically and logically about the information they access and the decisions they make.

Where We Learn

The JIS High School campus is the perfect environment for students to learn, grow, and achieve their very best.
