JIS Athletics Philosophy

JIS Athletics is committed to offering all members of our community opportunities to participate in a variety of physical activities and competitive sport that are guided by the JIS Core Values. JIS Athletics believes the experience of athletics, while challenging and rigorous, is rewarding, as students are guided towards success; success being defined as reaching the utmost of one’s abilities and potential in that activity. Additionally, JIS Athletics programs are recognized as an extension of the students’ learning experience, and all programs support the holistic process of development established by the school.

Mission Statement

JIS Athletics is an education-based platform for sports participation and the mission for all JIS athletic programs and participants is that they will show respect for self and others, value teamwork, honor commitments, develop and demonstrate resilience, and win and lose gracefully. While team and individual successes are natural goals in the pursuit of excellence, the focus for all participants and supporters is that the principles of good sportsmanship and the JIS Core Values take precedence at all times.

The Interscholastic Association of Southeast Asia Schools (IASAS) is a unique organization that fosters community, friendship, competition, cultural exchange, and fun between select schools across Southeast Asia.

Six schools make up the IASAS conference: Jakarta Intercultural School (JIS), Singapore American School (SAS), International School of Bangkok (ISB), International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL), International School of Manila (ISM), and Taipei American School (TAS). Through participation in IASAS, our student-athletes travel internationally to tournaments throughout the year, hosted by different member schools. In the 2019/20 season, JIS will host both the Basketball and Golf IASAS tournaments. JIS is proud to be a founding member of the IASAS conference and to offer all of its benefits to our students.

Community Sports offers sporting and fitness activities in order to better serve both students and adults. These activities are operated outside the JIS curriculum, and so carry a separate fee per program. We offer a wide variety of year-round, after school activities and holiday camps taught by expat and local experts for elementary, middle & high school students, and we further have offerings for adults.
