Activities

Students can engage in more than 500 clubs and activities that further enhance their learning journey at JIS, from TEDxJIS and student leadership to Service Learning and co-curriculars. Each is designed to not only challenge students to be Best for the World but also foster respect, a spirit of collaboration, inclusivity, and confidence.

JIS Academy & Community Sports

JIS Academy (JA) was established with the aim of offering quality, high interest academic, fitness, creative and sports activities beyond the normal Jakarta Intercultural School curriculum in order to better serve both students and adults. These activities are run by both expatriate and local instructors and coaches who have specialized knowledge in their field and, therefore, carry a separate fee per program.

During the academic year, the majority of our activities are open to only the JIS community due to limited space. The JIS Academy Summer Program, however, is equally open to JIS Dragons and nonmembers of the JIS community.

Many of the activities featured in our summer program are inspired by Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage, enriching our beautiful campus while also sharing the diversity of our school with all JIS Academy participants. We hope that this also creates an environment that fosters new understandings and new relationships for you and your children.

After School Activities

Through a variety of choices for students, After-School Activities (ASA) at JIS are geared toward promoting socialization, confidence, life skills, teamwork, strategic thinking, social service, and fun.

Many JIS-sponsored activities are available for Elementary students after school in the arts, athletics, STEM, and more. Parent-and community-sponsored activities complement these offerings in areas like scouts, gymnastics, and various team sports.

After-school clubs are a special part of the JIS Middle School co-curricular program. The philosophy is to "try everything", and from chess to sports, we offer a broad range of choices for students to do just that.
JIS High School has a range of clubs and activities, from Magic Club and rock climbing to jazz band and Model United Nations (MUN). Service clubs are also popular at JIS because our students strive to be Best for the World.

Student Leadership

JIS students are encouraged to be involved in as many activities as they can and to always challenge themselves as not only participants, but also as leaders. Opportunities for student leadership abound, from organizing events on the Middle School's Bali Stage to running for a spot in the Central Student Council in High School.

TEDxJIS, independently organized by High School students, is based on the world-renowned Tedx Talks. At the event, members of the JIS community speak on a theme, and the depth of knowledge and creative thinking on display always makes for a fascinating day with much food for thought.
Being part of the Volcano Leaders is one of many leadership opportunities at JIS Middle School. Serving as role models and school spirit leaders, the selected students organize activities such as socials, spirit days, and friendly competitions. The Volcano Leaders pictured here experienced a retreat with Outward Bound Indonesia to bond as a group, learn about leadership styles and teamwork, and of course have fun!

Dragon Spirit

Something about JIS makes students, parents, and faculty feel really passionate about the school. So, when the opportunity comes to let our Dragon Spirit be known (as it frequently does), everyone takes full advantage in ways that reflect our school's diversity.

Book Week at JIS Elementary School includes Book Character Day, when students, teachers, and staff members design costumes based on their favorite book characters.

Middle School Madness is a spirited event that sees teams of faculty and students, named after famous Indonesian volcanoes, compete in a series of challenges, from tug-of-war to water games where absolutely nobody stays dry.

During the annual Cilandak Games, the entire High School is buzzing with activities, from a raucous opening ceremony in the HS Gym to mental, physical, and artistic challenges that take place throughout our tropical Cilandak Campus.
